About Our School……

Welcome to Scoil Naomh Muire, which is situated in Farran in the parish of Ovens to the west of Cork city.

We are a co-educational primary school with special classes for children with a diagnosis of autism. Scoil Naomh Muire is a Catholic school under the patronage of the Bishop of Cork and Ross.

The school was extended to incorporate our special classes “Nead na Coille” in August 2013. With the increasing number of pupils and staff, there were further extensions of the school in August 2017 and September 2022 to provide extra classrooms and facilities to service our growing numbers.

We cherish our friendly and welcoming atmosphere where teaching and learning is at our core. We strive to do the very best we can for each child to maximise their talents and to give them opportunities in sporting, scientific, environmental and cultural events. Through the support of the Board of Management, Parents Association and a dedicated staff, we continue to foster the spiritual, moral, intellectual and social development of all our pupils in a secure and happy environment.

Our motto “Maistreacht tré Chleachtadh” inspires us as we continue to provide quality teaching and learning in Scoil Naomh Muire Farran, while always placing the wellbeing of all our school community at the heart of everything we do.

Is Mise le Meas,

Gerard O’Donoghue,

Principal.

Green Schools

Our school has been involved with the Green Schools programme for many years and we are very proud of our 5 Green Flags which are represented on the flagpole outside the school. We have achieved flags for Litter and Waste, Energy, Water, Transport and Biodiversity. Our Green school committee is made up of two children from every class along with 2 members of the school staff and it is a wonderful experience for the children to work as a team and lead the rest of the school in working towards each target.

Active Flag

2019 was our first year participating in the Active Flag and there was an amazing level of participation in all classes as pupils worked towards increasing their levels of activity and achieving Scoil Naomh Muire’s first Active Flag.

Vex Robotics

The Vex Robotic competition is an important way of promoting STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) among the pupils of Scoil Naomh Muire. The Vex Robotics Challenge provides a wide variety of opportunities for pupils to shine in robot design, build and programming as well as also providing opportunities to develop their collaborative and artistic skills as they prepare to compete as part of a team with other schools in the annual event in CIT.
