Our Gardening Year

March 2012;

As we had unseasonably warm weather in March, our thoughts turned towards our school garden. All the beds were cleared of weeds and generally tidied up. Mr. O’Donoghue and the children in 3rd and 4th class planted some potatoes, turnips, lettuce, carrots, onions and strawberries.

May 2012:

The 5th and 6th class decided to make our own organic feed again this year. They took leaves off the comfrey plants growing in the garden and put them soaking in water. They covered the buckets with plastic to prevent evaporation and stored them in a safe place. These they will leave to soak for at least two weeks, and then they will dilute the mixture and we will have our very own organic feed for the fruit, vegetables and flowers in our garden.

On June 20th the school celebrated its 50th anniversary and we had some bottles of our comfrey organic feed available for the parents and visitors. We also had some rhubard from our school garden.
